Santa Maria de Montalegre Church

The current church was built to replace an old medieval church that the nuns of the Cartuja de Montalegre built in the 13th century and that had become too small.

The new church was designed by the Barcelona architect August Font i Carreras and the Master Builder Domingo Balet between 1901 and 1902, the year in which it was consecrated.

It is a temple with a single nave and a cruciform floor plan with a dome in the transept and a semicircular presbytery attached to the transept, from which there is access to Carrer de Valldonzella.

In general terms, the decoration of the church is halfway between modernism and historicism, revisiting Eastern Roman and Romanesque art.
